10.15.09 - Creative Freelancer Conference

In its 2nd consecutive year, the Creative Freelancer Conference (hosted by HOW Magazine and Marketing Mentor) brings together designers, illustrators, copywriters and other “indies” of all age and skill levels that are serious about developing their freelance business. Held this year in San Diego, CA, the conference covered a variety of topics that affect creatives working for themselves, including: how to run a business (because let’s face it, most creatives didn’t get a degree in business), how to market that business, how to balance your time, how to ENJOY your time, how to save, spend and so much more. In fact, I believe it was the very first day of the conference – in the midst of meeting other creatives and listening to Petrula Vrontikis of Vrontikis Design Office – that I realized my investment in the conference was already providing me a great return.

As a creative freelancer I believe this was an important step in growing – both for my business and as a person. It was comforting and eye-opening to understand how many others were feeling the same emotions (I am lonely. How do I make people aware that I’m out here?), and it helped to listen to the speakers who had gone through all of these issues before and had solid, proven, effective advice. From roundtable discussions that helped us develop a perfect pitch (kudos to Dyana Valentine of DyanaValentine.com) to panel discussions led by Ilise Benun and Peleg Top of Marketing Mentor, we had access to others’ trials and errors so that we could apply those outcomes to our own situations.

Now that I have attended the conference, arrived back home with an arsenal of notes and suggestions, a stack of business cards from other creatives, and a good dose of California sunshine I can safely say that it was well worth the investment of time and money. Because not only does it benefit me; it benefits my clients in the form of creative work that is efficient, professional and the result of constant, positive business evolution.

4.2.09 - Writer At Hart Site Redesign

After much deliberation on site content and aesthetics, Writer At Hart is pleased to introduce a website redesign completed by Miller + Miller. You are currently experiencing one of the best additions to the site – the News – in which you can find information regarding my latest completed projects, case studies, site updates, current industry news, and any other details that I feel warrant a write-up. Please browse through the new site and let me know what you think.

12.1.08 - Rebound Book Now Available

Rebound: Liberation From Crisis is now available online at reboundbook.com. This is a candid look at the life and lessons of an American immigrant who experienced great wealth and even greater loss, and the impact of positive thinking on the outcome of it all. Working with this individual book over the course of two months, I became comfortably entangled in the ideas and how they could improve my life. I feel this book can do the same for many others and encourage you to visit the website (again, that’s reboundbook.com) to read a sample chapter from the book and place an order to embark on this unique journey of happiness, health and life’s true pleasures.

Visit my portfolio section for more information about this book project.
